Sandy Springs Fights "Sticks Bill"

The Georgia State House passed H.B. 876 (know as the "Sticks Bill") which would preclude local jurisdictions from prohibiting the use of wood in new construction, bringing cities like Sandy Springs into an uproar. If passed in the Senate and signed into law, this would essentially void a Sandy Springs building code that requires "all new buildings more than three stories or 100,000 square feet to be constructed with concrete or other nonflammable material and not wood."

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond paid a visit to a combined meeting of the Government Affairs Committees (GAC) from the residential and commercial boards. CEO Thurmond discussed issues that affect the real estate industry, such as economic development, the water crisis and transportation.
