Candidates Supported by Atlanta RPAC
How you vote is a personal decision, but it can also be a professional decision. Your fellow REALTORS® have worked hard to analyze races, review voting records, and interview candidates. Before you cast your ballot, please consider the candidates that your colleagues have identified as the most qualified to make important decisions that will impact the future of the real estate industry.
The Atlanta REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) supports local candidates in the metro Atlanta area who share our position on issues such as protecting property rights, promoting smart growth, creating affordable housing opportunities, and encouraging economic development -- regardless of partisan affiliation.
November 8, 2016, General Election Summary
The election returns are in, and here are the results of the candidates backed by the Atlanta REALTORS® Political Action Committee.
DeKalb County CEO: Mike Thurmond
Former School Superintendent Mike Thurmond defeated Republican Jack Lovelace by an astounding 81% - 19% margin. CEO-elect Thurmond will take office in January.
DeKalb County Commission: Edward "Ed" Patton
REALTOR® Ed Patton was a candidate in the special election to replace former Commissioner Stan Watson. In a very crowded race, Ed, unfortunately, did not make the run-off. Gregory Adams and Randall Mangum were the top two vote-getters and will head to the run-off.
City of Atlanta: MARTA and T-SPLOST
Both the expansion of MARTA and T-SPLOST Referendums passed with strong support in the City of Atlanta. The MARTA Referendum passed garnering 72% and the T-SPLOST passed with 68%. Fulton County’s T-SPLOST passed with 53%. ARPAC Trustees created "Unlock ATL" to support the passage of these vitally important referendums to ease traffic in Metro Atlanta.
GARPAC and National RPAC key race:
U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson
ARA member and U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson won re-election and avoided a run-off with 55% of the vote. This was a nationally watched race and, once again, REALTORS® made the difference. Senator Isakson, Congress' only REALTOR, will serve his third 6 yr. term.
